Mr. D's Famous Wings

Hello World. I'm Emily, Martha's Sister-In Law.
When Martha messaged me saying we should start a food blog together, I thought it was brilliant for so many reasons. As many of you probably know, our families have been intertwined for many years. From day one, there has been a common bond between our families over one very important thing- an unwavering love for FOOD 😍
I hope that any one who reads what we have to share can experience the love and care we put into our meals. Whether it be food for special family events, a holiday breakfast, or a weekend supper-dinner, all of us sisters have connected and bonded through the meals we have prepared and consumed, together and apart, across the stages and changes of our lives.

I figured for my first blog meal, there would be no better place to start than with a classic family favorite that has bonded Martha's and my family since the beginning. The BUFFALO CHICKEN WING 🐔
As early as junior high, my family used to host "chicken wing fests" where my Dad would buy dozens and dozens of chicken wings, vats of blue cheese dressing, and gallons of Frank's red hot sauce. We would invite all of our friends over and eat to our hearts content. These were times of abundance I remember so fondly. Everyone commented on my Dad's ability to cook the best chicken wing around. Over the years he perfected the wings to be more health friendly, crisped to perfection, and delectably flavored.
I now Present:
 Mr. D's Famous Chicken Wings

They are simple and perfect for the warm spring or summer days.
The secret to these wings does not lie with the deep fryer, but rather the trusty, tried and true grill!
Recipe
1 pack (or more) Chicken wings
3 TBS of Bucks Seasoning
1/2 cup of Hot sauce
Marie's OR Light House Blue Cheese Dressing

Pre-Heat your grill on medium

1. If you buy a pack with the whole wing you will have to chop the wings at 3 joints ( this is the worst part). Thankfully, many grocery stores carry pre-cut wings. They may be labeled as a party pack, wing pack, or chicken wings. This is not to be confused with a picnic pack! This is an easy mistake if you haven't bought wings before. "Picnic packs" or "Chicken parts" include thighs and legs, not wings.
2. Sprinkle with Bucks seasoning until lightly covered. Bucks is a CNY product so any BBQ inspired dry rub will do. I've even tried it with a Cajun rub and LOVED it.

3. Turn your grill down to low, place your chicken wings down, and close the lid. Try not to rearrange them once you place them down before they cook or you will be sad!
4. Set a timer for 20 minutes and keep an eye on your grill to ensure no flares singe your wings.
5. After your timer goes off, flip your wings and let them cook another 20 minutes.
6. Flip one more time and let them go for another 15 or so minutes. You want them to be crispy, but not dried out. (Note: The more burners you have on, the faster the wings will cook- even on low)
5. Remove the wings from the grill, place them in a container or bowl that has a lid. Pour in your hot sauce.
6. The actual best part besides eating them- SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE to ensure they are completely covered with hot sauce.  If you are not choking in the vinegary fumes, you have not added enough hot sauce 😁
ENJOY with your preferred dipping sauce- D'Anna style requires Blue cheese.

I hope you can enjoy these wings as much as we have for over a decade.

  1. This makes me very excited Emily, we have always done a bake/grill method. I can't wait to try completely grilled wings....

  2. I hadn't realized until now that they weren't deep fried. Definitely
want to try them once the 2 feet of snow on our deck has melted!! And we bought a charcoal grill last year. Very unfamiliar territory for me. I'm wondering how to keep it hot enough for the entire time of grilling. Please advise...
